2013 Handheld Game of the Year
Winner: The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds
The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds delivers in giving gamers more from the world of the Super Nintendo Classic The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. This time around, our hero, Link, has a special ability he gains to morph into a 2D object on a wall. This creates a ton of interesting scenarios and provides countless hours of fun puzzles to solve throughout the dungeons and rest of the world. This Zelda title blends the best of old school with new gameplay mechanics to create one of the most enjoyable experiences of the year. This title is highly recommended.
In Tearaway you play as, well, yourself. You are a god from the heavens looking down upon the world and help out a lonely little letter carrier to get through area after area. You do this by interacting with the world: tearing up the ground, fighting off enemies, and manipulating objects to help the poor little carrier out. This all comes from the genius minds behind Little Big Planet and continues to establish them as a studio you can put your trust into. These guys know how to make high quality titles and Tearaway is the best reason to own a PS Vita yet!
Shin Megami Tensai IV
Atlus has waited 9 years to give us a true, numbered, sequel to Shin Megami Tensei. And boy was the wait worth it as Shin Megami Tensei IV creates a memorable experience that makes you want to play on your 3DS instead of a larger-screened console. It is one handheld game we highly recommend and just missed out on taking our top handheld honors for the year.
