Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker First Look
Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Puzzle
In Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker, you only need to find a single star to complete the level. There are, however, three bonus gems to collect in each level. These can be in places that are hard to reach, hidden, or just out of place.
In the levels shown at E3, in the Nintendo booth, there was several spiky enemies to avoid and a river you must cross with other places to climb. Toad, unlike Mario, can't jump and is fairly slow. In another level, players use the Gamepad as a First Person viewpoint to shoot as you travel along an automated mine cart. You move the Gamepad around and the built in gyroscope moves the camera around while you shoot with the right trigger. The last level shown was a haunted mansion that had toad running around, in a circle, hiding from a flame dragon. Toad must hide from his breath and avoid the flaming balls falling from the sky.
The real question that remains to be seen is can Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker maintain a fresh and fun gaming experience to the Wii U without growing tedious. I am optimistic Nintendo can pull it off or they wouldn't have it planned for release this holiday 2014. Hopefully this will be a fun and original puzzle title. Fingers crossed.
