Disgaea 2 D2: A Brighter Darkness First Look
Players: 1 Player Game | Genre: Strategy RPG
Nippon Ichi Software and NIS America are teaming up yet again on the best Strategy RPG franchise the world has ever seen. In their annual press event last week, NIS America revealed that Disgaea 2 D2: A Brighter Darkness will be making its debut in North America in the Fall of 2013. The title, which ships in Japan next month, will once again be exclusively on the PlayStation 3 platform.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Disgaea and the 20th anniversary of Nippon Ichi Software. To celebrate both accomplishments, the team cooked up something special for Disgaea fans. A Brighter Darkness brings the three insanely popular characters back from the very first Disgaea game: Laharl, Etna, and Flonne. If you haven't played the series before (shame on you D00D!), this may not mean anything to you. Trust me, it is a big deal. Also, you won't need any knowledge of the past games to have fun with Disgaea 2 D2: A Brighter Darkness.
A Brighter Darkness features a brand new storyline but won't stray form the over-the-top action, witty dialogue, and bizarre world that has made the series iconic to Strategy RPG fans all over the world. NIS America also confirmed that Disgaea 2 D2: A Brighter Darkness will feature DLC after release. No details were given on what that specific DLC would be other than "various types of DLC."
A Brighter Darkness introduces us to Sicily. In the game, she arrives, via a package, in the mail, to Laharl. When the package is opened up, Sicily refers to Laharl as "Big Brother" but nobody believes she is a sibling to Laharl. Still she follows around Laharl Etna, Flonne, and the rest of the crew trying to convince them of this. Does she have other motives though?
For the uniformed, or if you have forgotten, lets remind you who the other main characters in in Disgaea 2 D2. First, Laharl is the son of a the famous and powerful Overlord. In the original Disgaea, he attempts to take his father's place as the Overlord after his dad dies. Unfortunately, very few realize he succeeded in this task.
Next, Etna greatly respected the Overlord, Laharl's Dad, and doesn't really respect him. However, out of loyalty to the Overlord, she is is loyal to his son, Laharl.
Finally, Flonne originally appeared as an angel and become a Fallen Angel after Disgaea 1. She tries to teach demons about love and Laharl gets annoyed by this very easily.
Disgaea 2 D2: A Brighter Darkness will also feature new character customizations never seen before in the series, the return of "Item World" for unlimited upgrade and levels, the Master/Pupil system where characters get stat boosts and can trade skills, animated backgrounds, and the return of high-resolution sprites.
