Medieval 2 (Pre-E3 2006)
Players: 1+ Player Game | Genre: Real Time Strategy
Creative Assembly made waves in the strategy game world with their hit title Rome: Total War. The amount of options and creativity in the title made it stand out from the crowd and now the team is getting ready to unleash a new monster for strategy fans. Medieval 2: Total War is upping the ante across the board. The game will feature more of everything that you loved about the old games in the Total War series, and we’re sure you’ll be pleased with the final product.
To begin with, the gameplay is being expanded considerably. For example each unit in your army will have a ton of unique battle strategies for you to use at your leisure. New abilities and more units are sure to make for frantic combat scenarios. Also, the terrain has been improved and now chasms and plains can be utilized much more effectively in the heat of battle. If you find yourself on the losing end of things, you can make use of the new siege system which allows you to pull back to defensive positions in an attempt to ride out an enemy onslaught.
Another area where the game has been improved is the graphics. Visually, Medieval 2 is a much nicer looking game than past games in the series. As mentioned, the terrain has been improved, but the character models and textures are better too. The armies have been given more variety in terms of looks and the animation has been painstakingly captured to present more realistic fights. Combine these elements with the new and improved gameplay features and you can understand why strategy fans are so excited about this release. Also, the bodies of fallen soldiers will now remain on the field driving home the feeling of being in the midst of a gruesome war.
The team at Creative Assembly has also introduced a few new factions to the fray. Now even more nations will be battling for supremacy and you’ll have to do a little PR work to keep your nation in good standing. Well, you could, but that might be boring. If you’re the feisty type you can cause an upheaval by sending an assassin to a friendly nation. That’s a great way to make some new enemies!
We’ll no doubt get more on this game on the show floor. The game will be on display so we’ll be able to get down and dirty with the soldiers on the field to bring you all the gory details. If you’re a fan of strategy games, you’ll definitely want to keep a close on this one.
