Tom Clancy's The Division
Players: 1+ Player Game | Genre: Action/RPG
The demo shown at Ubisoft’s Press Briefing shows us three weeks after this outbreak takes place. The only chance for survival is via the Presidential Directive 51, setup back in 2007 by President George W Bush, to call into action a group of agents to lead us back to prosperity and save the future of this great nation. And we need a miracle because houses and apartments are looted, store shelves empty, cars are wrecked and clogging up streets, garbage is stacked up everywhere, and there is no medicine at even the biggest pharmacies.
Tom Clancy’s The Division plays in the Third Person and has a viewpoint to give the players a good view of what the particular agent can see. the HUD (Heads Up Display) shows the health of your character, a map, location of other players, landmarks, and more. You can also pull up a virtual map that lays out this information for you in larger detail. As a member of The Division, you can scan other characters and see details about them. Upon passing a couple coming out of a pharmacy, you see that they are infected and extremely contagious. You hear gun shuts and take off in that direction. Upon arriving, you see a dead police officer. Scanning him shows he died from a gunshot to the head.
You are joined by other players at this police station and a scan shows that there are plenty of living people inside it. In order to take care of the hostiles, you will need to work together with these other Division units, controlled by real players. One will try to setup a mine to lure enemies into. But he will be a sitting duck if he just runs out. So you and another player will need to be at either side of him trying to draw fire away. As you kill enemy hostiles, you will see a numeric XP appear to show off the RPG elements and your progression to the next level.
Once you make your way inside the police stations, The Division agents free a policeman who was trapped and kidnapped by the hostile enemies. You also locate some water which is a scarce supply in this quarantined zone within New York City and head to the armory to grab new gear and refill ammo. This secures the police building for The Division.
Noises are heard outside and out group of players runs out of the police building to encounter PVP with another group of players. This is the world of Tom Clancy’s The Division and it is set to be released on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 during 2014. This is definitely one Action RPG that I was not expecting and something I look forward to seeing more of.
