Warhammer 40000: Dark Crusade (Pre-E3 2006)
Players: 1+ Player Game | Genre: Real Time Strategy
2004’s Dawn of War inspired by Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40000 is probably one of the better PC RTR games in a long time. The franchise is about to be expanded in a major way. A new expansion, Dark Crusade, is set for release in fall of 2006 and will add two more races to the already populated game, bringing it to a total seven.
Relic is developing the expansion pack to resolve some of the issues that came up with both the original RTS, Dawn of War, and with the first expansion, Winter Assault. It has an expanded single-player campaign to gain control of the planet Kronus. This can happen from the perspective of any of the seven races in the game. Additionally, the single-player strategy is completely up to you. It is non-linear so that the freedom is completely in your hands to decide which are to conquer first. Also, there are going to be strategic advantages to conquering one area over another.
While Dark Crusade will remain true to the spirit of Warhammer 40000 and the character development that we are all already used to. But, one of the most exciting developments is the ability to customize your character. Whichever race you choose to play as will give different options for weaponry, abilities, and prestige levels.
With seven different races to choose from, This also means that the single-player campaign can be played through seven times and have completely different options each time. This makes the replayability on a game that we have already played through a few times, thanks to the previous releases of Winter Assault. This game is going to be like the teddy bear that your mom took from you to get restuffed when you were little. When it came back, it was slightly improved, but the same old teddy. Well, except this teddy has a huge mace to kill other teddies with, but you get the idea.
We will be looking forward to more information on the Warhammer 40000 expansion pack, Dark Crusade, due out later this year.
