Fuzion Frenzy 2
Players: 1 to 4 Player Game | Release Date: 01/30/07 | Genre: Party
Developer Hudson Soft is best known for taking the Mario Party franchise, putting it in their magic game making machine, and turning out yearly sequels. They have done this on the Nintendo 64, GameCube, and are planning on continuing the legacy on the Nintendo Wii later this year. Since making minor updates to a videogame board game doesn't take much effort, the team has also gone on to create such classic titles as our 2006 Worst Game of the Year--Bomberman Act Zero. Now the team has been enlisted by Microsoft to create Fuzion Frenzy 2. A game that is so bad, they may become the first ever Developer to win back to back Worst Games of the Year!
Fuzion Frenzy 2 is the sequel to the much despised Fuzion Frenzy. Despite that fact that it was a horrible attempt at Microsoft making a party game to copy Mario Party, Bill Gates somehow endorsed this title as one of his favorite games on the platform. With leadership like this, it is no wonder Microsoft has gone downhill in the past several years. But surely Fuzion Frenzy 2 isn't as bad as the first... right?
Like the first game, players will find an assortment of minigames to play through. Unlike Mario Party, these games are not very fun and usually cause more frustrating than provide enjoyment. Fortunately there is some variety here. Players can participate with up to three other players in tournament mode, Xbox Live, mini-game frenzy mode, and others. Like in Mario Party, if you do not have four people playing a game, a computer will fill that spot. The CPU characters range from the incredible cheap and practically cheating to the incredibly stupid and unable to compete. However, no matter if you are playing with or without others, these modes are very standard and not a lot of fun.
One of the negative things about Fuzion Frenzy 2 are the minigames. For a game built around these games, this is a very disappointing realization.
The biggest positive in Fuzion Frenzy 2 is that players can obtain a ridiculously easy amount of achievements. With only fourteen to unlock, you will quickly find that your GamerScore has risen an extra 1,000 with no effort at all. Perhaps the future of poor Xbox 360 titles will include very easy achievements. I don't know about you, but while I love the concept of Achievements and GamerScore, I would much rather have a good game over a titoe that is no fun and has 1,000 easy to
I have been harsh on this title and it may sound like I have some sort of grudge against Hudson Soft or Microsoft's Fuzion Frenzy franchise. To be honest, I am a big fan of the Mario Party series. Though the past couple of incarnations were only slightly different and messed up the game mechanics, they are still fun multiplayer games. Fuzion Frenzy 2, and the before mentioned Bomberman Act Zero, are in a completely different category. These titles are not fun, not enjoyable, and are shining examples of how to suck the fun out of a videogame. Perhaps Hudson Soft has two Development studios? One does good Nintendo Mario Party games and the other tries to win Worst of the Year gaming awards?
Another blow against Fuzion Frenzy 2 is that the game must have sold so poorly that Microsoft is trying to get give copies away to eager plans in the Old Spice Xbox Live Rewards program. The only way to get gamers excited about getting a copy of Fuzion Frenzy 2 is to make it a limited edition prize in a contest involving virtual achievement points. Avoid Fuzion Frenzy 2 like the plague.
