Tales from the Borderlands
Players: 1 Player Game | Release Date: 11/25/14 | Genre: Adventure
Bringing a new story to the pandemonium, over the top situations, and the chaos of Pandora comes Tales from the Borderlands, a five-episode story created by Telltale Games. Tales from the Borderlands takes place after events in Borderlands 2--only this time you find yourself following the footsteps of an up and coming employee and his friend of the Hyperion company. Beware though, if you have not played through all of Borderlands 2, some spoilers may be seen or heard. It is available on PC, Android, iOS, OS X, Playstation 3 and PlayStation 4, and Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
This game takes you along on a journey filled with the humor of the Borderlands series, with a different playstyle. It is a narrative gameplay telling the story of many characters you see along the way. Giving you the ability to control which way the story goes, be mean, be nice--it is all up to the choices you make. There will be times where the action happens and you may have to dodge bullets or use the individual item of the characters story you are following.
The controls are simple using the keybindings of WASD, Q E T, the left and right mouse buttons, and the ESC key. Notifications and the necessary controls will pop up showing you which action is needed. There is only a set time for each and every response required in the game. For voice responses, there will be a red timing bar at the bottom of the choices given. If you fail to pick one, the story will be picked up by another character in the game and move on in a way you weren't expecting. Take to long to dodge a bullet or run out of the way of some object and it may just be game over. If you do find yourself in the game over scenario, don't worry it will pick up just before you needed to make that critical decision.
If you’re like me and enjoy having more freedom in making your choices and not always going where the game leads you, this game is limiting. You are limited to answers pre-set in-game, and you may not find the perfect answer you would like. Also, you may not be able to do as many free actions as in other Borderlands games, but don’t let that deter you from enjoying this great adventure game. It will take you on a hilarious roller coaster of a journey!
Like any Borderlands game, you will meet unsavory characters, noble characters and, of course, Vault Hunters. After all Pandora just isn't the same without them! If you enjoy guiding and being guided by a game, give this game a try. It brings a new perspective to the game and a break from pillaging, plundering and killing your way through Pandora. That is not to say you can't steal, kill or plunder. It simply means that you will have to direct the story and wait for an agreeable fatal outcome.
