One of the most popular Disney characters in recent years, Aladdin, is back on the Playstation in Disney’s Aladdin in Nasira’s Revenge. While Aladdin titles in the past put our young hero in a two-dimensional world, Argonaut Software and Sony have moved the game world into “spiced-up” version of the Croc 2 game engine. Players who enjoyed the Croc series will instantly pick up Nasira’s Revenge and begin navigating Aladdin through the game world.

The story picks up where the movies left off, with Jafar defeated and out of Agrabah completely. However, Nasira, Jafar’s twin sister, wants to bring Jafar back, to cause even more problems for Aladdin and his friends. Nasira hypnotizes the guards, kidnaps Princess Jasmine and the Sultan, and prepares to dispose of Aladdin for good.

Despite the typical Aladdin story, Argonaut Software accomplished some incredible things with the Playstation hardware. The game world of Aladdin is bright and colorful, as you wonder through the marketplace of Agrabah, attempt to reach the next level. Along the way, the Genie will appear and provide you with tips that are helpful in completing the levels.

Throughout Nasira’s Revenge, players will be able to play as Aladdin’s pet monkey, Abu, and Princess Jasmine for a very small portion of the title, while the rest will be played as Aladdin. While Argonaut Software did a nice job with graphics, the controls are lacking. Players will find themselves swinging themselves off ropes in the wrong direction and fighting the camera angles more than enjoying the game. Just as bad, the sound in Nasira’s Revenge is very repetitious and annoying. After fifteen minutes, you will be ready to mute the TV and turn up your stereo.

While Disney’s Aladdin in Nasira’s Revenge is by no means a classic, you may find it fun and enjoyable for a weekend of play. However, unless you are a younger player, Nasira’s Revenge will probably frustrate you with its poor controls and music. For the sake of all the gamers out there, I hope Argonaut Software will correct the problems that plague Nasira’s Revenge in their future titles.
