The confirmation of Metal Gear Solid 4 at E3, while expected, left us with very little information to play with. A few details have been leaked but only enough to whet our stealth action appetites. Here is all we know about Hideo Kojima’s freshest installment in the series.

Well for starters, it is indeed being produced and developed by Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima’s own little development studio inside Konami. Metal Gear Solid 4 is definitely being made for PlayStation 3, but whether or not it will be ported to other next-generation systems is undetermined. Kojima stated in an interview that he would rather produce individual games for Revolution and Xbox360. But getting back to Metal Gear Solid 4, Solid Snake has been confirmed as the main character, and many profiles from the past games in the franchise have been shown in MGS4 promotions; confirmed returns include Octagon, Revolver Ocelot, and even Meryl Silverburgh.

The game takes place a few years after the end of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. That is all we know about the plot. As far game play, we know about just as much, unfortunately. It is following the theme of “no place to hide.” This is a pretty interesting theme and suggests that perhaps this installment will play with a more action-oriented system of game play. Hopefully this means they are taking a huge step forward in the series, much like Capcom did with Resident Evil 4. That is, familiar gameplay with a very fresh feel–while taking out some recurring annoyances.

Not much information, but enough to feed our video game addiction until more information is unveiled or the game is released (Kojima has a way with keeping secrets like no other). Hopefully a confirmed release date, or footage, or screens, or info, or anything at all becomes available shortly! So keep checking back for follow-up information regarding Metal Gear Solid 4 and other production plans from Kojima Studios and Konami.
