QuakeCon 2008: The Madness Begins
QuakeCon 2008 has begun at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. CVGames has journied down Interstate 35 to bring you all the latest news and information from the show. Tonight we will hear from the creative genius behind id Software’s engines, John Carmack, for some of the first in-depth footage of their upcoming title RAGE. We also expect to learn more about the upcoming Wolfenstein and DOOM IV sequels. QuakeCon 2008 should deliver an amazing amount of detail from everyone’s favorite First Person Shooter developer.
This year, QuakeCon turns 13. It is amazing to think that this convention has grown into a global phenomenom. The first QuakeCon began life as a gathering of a handful of gamers at a hotel nearby the id Software headquarters. This year, the convention is bigger than ever before and has become truly a global phenomenon with gamers traveling from over 34 countries, to Dallas, and with US-based players coming from over 47 states! id Software expects to see over 5,000 gamers at the show and the vast majority of these players will participate in the popular BYOC.
In the “Bring Your Own Computer” (BYOC) area, players sign up for a seat at an endless sea of tables to plug in to the local network, and play the latest and greatest multiplayer games. Already we have seen a large number of beautiful cases, huge LCD screens, and plenty of body odor. In fact, there is a sign posted to make sure players keep themselves bathes and using plenty of deoderant. Perhaps a sponsor should fill that void next year and make the BYOC room smell better?
There is also an Exhibitor area that features copmaneis such as Activision, Intel, amBX, BAWLS, AMD, Dell, Alienware, Logitech, PNY, Tritton Technologies, Texas Instruments DLP, Linksys, and more.
Keep reading CVGames for the latest on QuakeCon 2008. We will be posting more throughout the event–including pictures of the BYOC area, the Exhibitor hall, and the keynote during the weekend of QuakeCon 2008.

Kaleb started Parents Press Play to begin podcasting and reaching a more casual segment of the world that tends to have coverage dominated by by "Hardcore," or "Core players. CVGames still exists to cover that section of users.
Combining CVGames and Parents Press Play together, Kaleb created CVGN: The Covering Video Games Network. While world domination is unlikely, our passionate team continues to strive to inform the different audiences with content we are passionate about.
