E3 2011 Nintendo Press Conference
9:07 We are live at the Nintendo Press Conference. Things are starting a bit late but it looks like the show is finally going to begin. A full orchestra is out on stage and playing music from the Zelda universe while Zelda gameplay footage goes on in the background. Nintendo just stole Videogames Live’s idea!!
9:11 Miyamoto is on stage talking about last year being the 25th Anniversary of Mario and this year being the 25th year of Zelda. Miyamoto is talking about the importance of music in the Zelda series and is going to have the orchestra play Zelda music for us.
9:16 The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening awakening will be available, later today as the first Game Boy Color release as a download.
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D will launch next week for the Nintendo 3DS and include the Mater Quest
Nintendo will release The Legend of Zelda Four Swords, for DSiWare, the game will be free to download and release later this year.
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is finished and will be available later this year on Nintendo Wii. Nintendo will be promoting a Gold Wiimote around the release.
The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony will be coming to regions all over the world in the fall. Nintendo will also release two music CD”s with the music from the Symphony and a Club Nintendo promotion.
9:22 Miyamoto says thank you for the support of Zelda.
9:23 Satoru Iwata is taking the stage and is speaking about how Nintendo has brought in an entire new group of players. Nintendo says that a game platform has not been released for both casual and core players. Nintendo says they will do this with Deeper Game Experience and Wider Appear to All Gamers. This will make people see games in a different way. They will strive to Serve Every type of Player. This new platform will help Nintendo reach this goal.
9:26 We will hear more about that later. Now there is an animation for Super Mario Kart 3D. Next, a brief animation for a Starfox 3D appears. Finally, we see what we want for 3DS–a Super Mario plat former!
Kid Icarus is on the screen to showcase his new game and now we see a brand new Luigi’s Mansion! People are going nuts for this.
9:29 Reggie is on stage saying that he hears us: players want something new–something with a buzz. Reggie asks, can they deliver something for everyone? The new console will but can the 3DS? Reggie says yes.
9:30 Mario Kart is a new tricked out version you haven’t driven before. You now get to go underwater, racing there, and in the air. Players will be able to customize their karts for added fun and replay.
9:32 Reggie says Mario Kart will be out this holiday season for the 3DS.
9:33 Reggie is now talking Starfox 64 3D… *sighs* another remake. Gamers will be able to use buttons or tilt to fly. Nintendo 3DS cameras will take video and capture audio of multiplayer kills. This comes out in September 2011.
9:34 Reggie now is talking about Mario on the 3DS. This is a brand-new adventure called Super Mario. The crowd goes wild and we will have full hands on with it later. Nintendo will only commit to release before the end of the year.
9:36 Reggie starts up a video of Kid Icarus Uprising. This game looks like a console quality release on the handheld. It will also feature full multiplayer support against other players. There will also be augmented reality cards coming soon.
9:38 Kid Icarus will feature 3 on 3 multiplayer and will be available “later this year.”
9:39 Luigi’s Mansion is now being shown and looks like a perfect fit for the platform. The title is called Luigi’s Mansion 2 and is an entirely new game with multiple new mansions. No release date given.
9:40 Reggie is turning his attention to Third Party 3DS titles with Resident Evil, Ace Combat, Tetris Online, Cave Story 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, Driver Renegade, Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions, Tekken 3D, and Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D.
9:41 Reggie is back and talking the Nintendo Browser and the Nintendo eShop. The new system update, for the 3DS, will allow for viewing of trailers. Soon we will be able to play demos of online and retail software.
9:43 3D Classics Excitebike will be free for a limited time for 3DS Virtual Console. Nintendo is also giving players a 3D Pokedex. You will also be able to use augmented reality with Pokedex 3D and will only be available on the Nintendo eShop. It will be free with your system update.

9:46 Reggie is preparing to talk about the new platform and how the name Wii made sense for that console. Wii U is the new name for the platform. Reggie is trying to give us U names to make us feel better.

You can use the new controller to put an item, like a golf ball, in it, and then use the Wii Mote to take your shot.

9:52 Iwata is on stage. 6.2″ touch screen and is backwards compatible with Wii Games, Wii Controllers, and even the balance board is compatible. ZR, ZL, L, R, Circle Pad on the left and Right, Control Pad, X, Y, A, B, Touch Screen, speaker, microphone, and an accelerometer will all be on the new Wii U Controller. This was not designed to be a portable gaming system. The Wii U Console wirelessly transmits the picture to the controller.
9:55 Iwata wants to make strong bond between you, your games, your internet, and your friends. This is a new structure for home entertainment.
9:57 A new Smash Bros is coming to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Reggie is coming back on stage is is saying that all Nintendo software shown at E3 will be what the system is capable of. These may or may not become final software.
10:01 Reggie just showed a tech demo of a bird and fish. Not really that impressive.
Shield Post is talked about and requires you to move the controller to block arrows.
Chase me shows a game and the world is different depending on what controller you are holding.
Super Mario Mii is also shown that has your Mii play alongside Mario in Super Mario Wii.
spaceship is another that features different views for the WiiMote and Wii U Controllers.
10:04 Lego City Stories is in development for Wii U. It looks like a kid-friendly version of Grand Theft Auto.

10:11 John Riccitiello is on stage from EA. This is the first time he has ever appeared on a Nintendo stage. He is completely excited about core titles being a focus. He says this is a deeper and better platform than they have ever been offered before.
