Nintendo E3 2012 Press Briefing for Wiis & Miis
Shigeru Miyamoto takes the stage for Nintendo to talk about Pikmin. Bill Trinen has been whistled on stage, Pikmin style, to translate further for Miyamoto.
Pikmin 3 is announced for Wii U. There will be new gameplay mechanics like building bridges and new Rock Pikmin. Wii Motion Plus can also be used to make throwing Pikmin much more precise. Also, with the inclusion of higher resolutions, it is much easier to see the game map and details of characters.
The game can also be played with the Wii U Control Pad. The Control Pad will show details like the map so you can see what is going on in the map and switch between up to four different leaders.
Wii U is a deep game and Miyamoto wants to show gamers how much fun deep games can be. Games today have been oversimplified. Miyamoto wants to change that with Pikmin 3.
Reggie Fils-Aime is on stage to follow Miyyamoto. Reggie says the most important thing is the games. It is all about the game. 23 Wii U games will be shown today.
Wii U does 3 things: Changes gaming, changes how you react with gaming friends, and changes the way you enjoy your TV. It will revolutionize your living room. Youtube, Amazon Video, Hulu Plus, and Netflix are all going to be included for the secondary screen.
To fully appreciate Wii U, you are going to have to devote a lot of time at e3.nintendo.com. Homework from Reggie?
The Wii U hardware will support two separate Game Pads. This week, however, will only be shown with one Game Pad games.
Miiverse will be coming to other platforms like PC, Mac, Tablets, and Smartphones. Even the 3DS! This sounds like it won’t be available at launch.
New Super Mario Bros U will feature elements of the Miiverse inside the game. This appears to be something a lot of games could use. Four Wiimotes will be used to play the game but the Control Pad can be used as a fifth person to just tap and help “boost you” through the game. Something for the core and casual?
Batman Arkham City Armored Edition is coming to the Wii U and Martin Tremblay, President of Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, is here to talk about it. Players will be able to experience Batman in a very unique way. Rocksteady is not developing the Wii U version. It will, however, offer the B.A.T. mode that will give players a button to power up Batman on the Control Pad.
If you use the remote control batarang, you use the Control Pad to guide and fly it to your target. You can also use the touch screen to set off explosives and traps in the game world.
Scribblenauts is also coming to Wii U in Scribblenauts Unlimited. You will design and create objects, like an “Auto Dog” and place it in the world. Your friends can even modify your objects and join you in a multiplayer mode. The 3DS tag was also shown at the end of the trailer. Looks like it is coming on the 3DS as well.
Reggie is back to lead us into our next title. Darksiders II trailer is shown because THQ fired the team to show off the game at the show.
Also included in the trailer of Wii U games are:
Mass Effect 3 from EA
Tank! Tank! Tank! from Namco
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 from Namco
Trine 2: Director’s Cut from Frozenbyte
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge from Tecmo
Aliens Colonial Marines from Sega
Wii Fit U is announced to make you happier and sweatier than ever before. A trailer is shown with the new Wii U Control Pad sitting on the floor for another view of the action. You can also use the Control Pad to continue the action while the TV is being used. Because nobody has multiple televisions in their house.
Reggie is now announcing Sing, a working title, from FreeStyle Games. A social game that the core will laugh at but the casual fans will probably love. The Control Pad can be held vertically and lyrics for songs will appear on the screen so they can look out at friends instead of at the TV.
Tomorrow at 6 PM Nintendo will be hosting an all 3DS event at e3.nintendo.com. This will include both first and third party titles.
New Super Mario Bros 2 is coming to 3DS and it is all about the GOLD! Gold coins are everywhere and the actions you take will create Gold coins and you can also make the enemies turn gold. The game will be coming out on August 19 for 3DS.
Paper Mario Sticker Star is now quickly being shown. Stickers are the new element in this game. You will collect them by pulling them off scenery to use as items in the battle. So if you want to stop enemies, you need the boot sticker. This will be coming out both physically and digitally this holiday season.
Not to be left out, Luigi’s Mansion 2 is still coming to the platform in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is out this year. He will have to travel between multiple mansions and features full 3D support this Holiday Season.
Reggie is back talking about Lego City on the Wii U. Lego City Undercover is the official title name. The Wii U Gamepad has missions come in on the device instead of the TV. You also look around the with the Gamepad to find hidden things. A portable version of Lego City Undercover is coming exclusively, for handhelds, on the 3DS. Sorry Vita!
Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, is on stage to talk about Ubisoft on the Wii U. Just Dance 4 had Reggie become the Puppet Master and ZombiU turned Reggie into an actual Zombie. Plus more stuff we saw from the Ubisoft Press Briefing yesterday.
Reggie is on stage to debut Nintendo Land–a theme park for all of Nintendo’s characters for the Wii U and its unique Gamepad. Nintendo Land is for the Wii U what Wii Sports was to the Wii.
Katsuya Eguchi and Jonathan Yeckley are on stage to talk more about this Nintendo Land theme park adventure. The Legend of Zelda Battle Quest, Luigi’s Ghost Mansion Haunting Hijinks, Donkey Kong’s Crash Course and many more. This is going to be using the Wii U Controlpad with many of the tech demos we saw last year at E3.
Multiplayer experiences will include one Controlpad while the others have Wiimotes in their hands. Nintendo calls this Asymmetric gameplay.
Nintendo Land will launch alongside the Wii this Holiday. We don’t get a release date. We don’t get a price. They must really be strugglign to get the prices down for the Wii U platform.
