Skylanders Trap Team Updated Look
Publisher: Actvision
Players: 1 to 2 Player Game |
Genre: Action
Release Date: 10/05/14

Skylanders Trap Team will feature 60 characters in the Series 4 line. The big new feature is the trap mechanic mentioned above. As you trap an enemy boss, you will hear their voice go from the TV and into the Portal of Power. Inside there, they will continue to talk to you while you play. Once captured, the newly trapped boss will be able to join you on screen for a limited amount of time with the press of a button. With 40 bosses to trap, it is like collecting even more characters.
Players will need to collect 8 different traps in order to collect all the bosses. Each trap holds five bosses of a particular element and there are 40+ bosses listed in the marketing for the game and this leads into an important question: will there be a new element introduced in Skylanders Trap Team? If each trap holds 5 bosses and there are 40+ bosses, there would have to be more than the current 8 elements.
Each trap can only have one active villain in it at a time. The rest of the villains are tucked away in a player vault. You can swap the villain out between missions. As you progress in Trap Team, you will obtain quests specific for the villains.
Players will once again be able to jump. This was a mechanic featured in the last outing, from the series, in Skylanders Swap Force. We also had a chance to try out the minigames. The overhead minigame is back features elemental tiles, like fire, and water to put the fire out. It also features blocks that bounce you around the puzzle screen. You will have to work and try to get to the exit through trial and error. These were definitely more challenging than before and feature multiple-tiered levels to pass the minigame.
Skylanders Trap Team will be the largest campaign in the history of the franchise. But the levels won’t be quite as large as before. This will make more action-packed levels with little to no downtime.
Like in past games, the toys from prior games: Skylanders, Giants, and Swap Force all work in the new Trap Team. However, due to the mechanic for the traps, a brand new Portal of Power has been created. The new Portal of Power will also feature the speaker on it to make the immersive trapping gameplay come to life.
Skylanders Trap Team will come out for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, Wii, and Wii U on October 5, 2014. The game is fun and is worth jumping into whether or not you have played Skylanders in the past.
