M3: My Morning Musings – Dragon Age, Star Wars, & Descent

I find the concept of a seven day trial of the full game very interesting. Although this might not work with many titles due to game length, Microsoft should consider some type of alternate service to Xbox Live Gold that picks a game every week and lets you play the full version for seven days. This would be something that would give them a heads up over Sony. The only issue I see is getting the Publishers on board for it. But I would see a service like that as a reason to buy Xbox One.
To help bridge the gap between the next star wars film, coming in December 2015, there will be 20 books written to tell the story between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. New Star Wars Books will range from novels, to comics, to even stickerbooks. We will finally, officially, find out what has happened to Luke, Leia, and Han for the past 30 years. I say officially because last year, Lucasfilm announced that the world of Star Wars books, the Expanded universe, would not be considered official and be stopped immediately. Officially, Luke never married Mara Jade and Han and Leia never had twins. The new books coming will be considered canon and inside them we will see hints and easter eggs that will appear in the upcoming December 18 film.
We know a little about the titles coming: Del Rey’s Star Wars: Aftermath may just be the book that bridges the gap between the original, classic, trilogy, and the next one. Marvel will also put out a story from C-3PO’s point of view known as Star Wars: Journey. Finally, Star Wars: Ships of the Galaxy, will talk about all things Star Wars ships. There will also be books featuring the three main characters of Star Wars: Luke, Leia, and Han. Cecil Castellucci will pen Moving Target featuring Princess Leia. Jason Fry will write Weapon of a Jedi featuring Luke Skywalker. Claudia Gray will write Lost Stars. Last but certainly not list, Greg Rucka will write Smuggler’s Run featuring Han Solo.
As a big fan of the expanded universe, this is big news to me.
Do you remember the classic Interplay game series descent? This was a space shooter done in tight corridors on space stations in the 90’s. The game had three total games and has gone missing in the world of videogames until now. Descent Studios, a new startup in Austin, TX, has obtained the rights to the name Descent and will be Publishing Descent: Underground. They are currently seeking $600,000 on Kickstarter and you can view the campaign here.
You can watch their Kickstarter pitch here:
Lets keep our fingers crossed that this is fully backed and we can see this franchise return with great quality.
