We are on the countdown to the release of Star Wars Episode VII, the studio has already begun planning Star Wars Episode VIII. The movie, which doesn’t yet have a public title, will be coming on May 26, 2017.  For those of you not counting, that is 40 years and a day after the release of the original Star Wars: A New Hope.

Coming December 16, 2016 is the first ever full feature spin-off of the Star Wars universe: Star Wars Rogue One. Not much is known about the new film except this will be the first of several planned spin-offs in the universe featuring characters core to the Star Wars Saga.

In other news, 2K and Firaxis Games released Sid Meier’s Starships for PC, Mac, and iPad. This title asks players to command a fleet of Starships in turn based missions and search a galaxy seeking peace. The title is available for $14.99 across all devices.  Am I the only one shocked to see this title coming out so soon? I didn’t expect it until later this year at the earliest. Despite the surprise release, we are really looking forward to covering this title.

Sega revealed today that their re-mastered version of Out Run, 3D Out Run is now available on the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS.  This is the remake of the 1986 classic from Yu Suzuki with enhanced graphics, faster gameplay, and a stage select option. Log on to the Nintendo eShop, via your 3DS, for more details on this title.

After releasing on the most platforms and the PC, Child of Light, from Ubisoft, is coming to the PlayStation Vita on March 24. The title is a turn-based RPG inspired by watercolor art. As a playable poem, Child of Light takes players on an extraordinary journey through the mystical world of Lemuria by putting them in the shoes of Aurora, a young princess who must win back the sun, the moon and the stars held captive by the mysterious Queen of the Night.

We have speculated, in the past, that Titanfall’s sequel would be multiplatform. Today, that was confirmed in an interview with IGN.
“I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don’t know anything about it, or… yeah. So we’re working on a sequel,” Zampella told IGN, referring to a talk given last month by Blake Jorgensen, Electronic Arts’ chief financial officer. Zampella added that the game does not yet have an official title.

Yesterday, we talked about Uncharted 4 getting delayed until Spring 2016 and wondered how many more titles would miss out on 2015 releases.  It didn’t take long, but the next casualty is Homefront: The Revolution. This sequel to the 2011 Homefront is now coming out in 2016 and is still being developed by Deep Silver’s Dambuster Studios.

While I have previously said the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are not worth buying until later in 2015, will I have to change this to 2016 if these games keep getting delayed? It just seems the industry wasn’t ready for new consoles yet with such few, good, titles being released on them.

Star Citizen, the crowdfunded game that has generated over 70 million dollars in support, will be at least a 100 GB download when the game ships. WOW! That is one big game. For a game that is that big, you have to wonder if this project has just gotten to be so large that they need to rethink what it is…  Star Citizen is expected to release in 2016 on the PC and crowdfunding support could balloon to over 100 million dollars by the time it comes out.

The team and Sony is working on a new PlayStation 4 system update codenamed Yukimura that will be version 2.50. When it is released, it will offer features like Suspend/Resume, Sub-Accounts, Remote Play and Share Play at 60 FPS, and Trophy improvements.

The two features I am looking forward to are the Suspend/Rsume and Trophy Improvements. For Suspend/Resume, it will be nice to be able to stop playing a game no matter if I am at a save point or not, and be able to pick up and play again. This is important in a house with two smaller kids and a Pregnant wife that may need me at any moment. No longer will I have to yell: “HOLD ON WHILE I FIND A SAVE SPOT!!!”

For the Trophy improvements, you will soon see a screenshot at the time you get a trophy unlocked to see what was going on in the game at the time. It is a minor thing but adds a lot to the system.

The 2.50 update for the PS4 currently has no release date but is in development in Beta with a release date “coming soon.”
