I heard somebody say that E3 is getting ridiculous like Black Friday. Every year it starts earlier and earlier until it is completely out of control. I sorta agree with that thinking as EA started their Press Conference on Saturday, June 10 and E3 doesn’t officially start until Tuesday, June 13. At what point will we just make this E3 event an entire month? Maybe every company will just get their own day to try and make their announcements stand out.

While we get ready for the big Microsoft and Bethesda announcements today, I wanted to look at some of the latest rumors and news and give some thoughts on them. We will discuss Xbox Scorpio Pricing, Anthem Release Date, Bethesda Leaks, Kingdom Hearts III Surprise Trailer, Nintendo’s Shrinking E3 Direct, More Tyranny on Tuesday, Konami Thinking Castlevania, Microids Announces Syberia on Switch, & Shenmue 3 Delay Confirmed.

Xbox Scorpio Pricing
Microsoft is really in a bad spot. Everyone is playing on PlayStation 4 and they need to sell units to catch up to Sony. Problem is, they don’t have enough internal development studios to compete with the amount of games Sony can develop. This is ultimately why Xbox 360 lost their lead with PlayStation 3 and a big part of why Microsoft can’t compete with PlayStation 4 this generation. What should they do?

In my opinion, Microsoft will release an Xbox Scorpio model, probably called Xbox One 10 S, at $399. This unit may have a smaller hard drive or something to make it a bit less appealing but at that price point, Microsoft takes the fight to Sony. Sony will have no choice but to react by dropping the price of the PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 4 models.

Microsoft has already dropped the price of Xbox One S starting at $199 today. While that could be a temporary cut, I fully expect it to be a new offensive strategy designed to undercut Sony on pricing.

Geoff Keighley disagrees and thinks the Scorpio will be announced at $499 today. While it could happen, I don’t feel Microsoft will succeed unless the price is so low people will stand up and cheer during the Press Conference later today. $399 would entice me to get the new upgraded Xbox One and play Third Party Games there in glorious 4K at high frame rates.

Also, expect the Microsoft Press Event to run longer than the usual 90 minutes according to Phil Spencer’s tweet.

Anthem Release Date
Bioware finally showed the world a teaser for their new IP Anthem. This game is coming in Fall 2018. Will EA partner up with Microsoft to deliver a timed exclusive from Spring 2018 until it is released on PlayStation 4 in the Fall of 2018? If I were Microsoft, I would make that deal in a heartbeat. That is if the game would be ready.

Bethesda Leaks
Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. There is a lot of smoke coming up on two games I predicted to be at Bethesda’s Press Conference later today: The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

On Reddit, there have been multiple ads that say The Evil Within 2 is now available for Pre-Order. Also, two text ads also state:
“Bethesda returns you to the nightmare. How will you survive?”
“From survival horror mastermind Shinji Mikami comes The Evil Within 2. The only way out is in”.

For Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Amazon.de listed the game for an October 27, 2017 release.

While both of these could be mistakes or some type of hoax, I fully expect to see both games confirmed for later this year.

Kingdom Hearts 3 Surprise Trailer
While I was unable to make it to the world premiere of the Kingdom Hearts III Orchestra in the Los Angeles area last night, they showed off the world premiere of a brand new Kingdom Hearts III gameplay trailer and a promise to show more on July 15 at the D23 Expo 2017. Fingers crossed we get a 2018 release date on this one in the near future. However, it will be coming to both PlayStation 4 and, for the first time in the history of the franchise, to the Xbox platform via Xbox One.

Nintendo’s Shrinking E3 Direct
A few weeks ago, it was rumored that Nintendo was going to give us 45 to 60 minutes in their E3 2017 Direct. Last week, that time was rumored to be cut down to only 30 minutes.  Finally, new rumors are now out there suggesting the E3 Direct, from Nintendo, will be cut down to only 25 minutes long.

Nintendo works on these things in advance and could it be they are wanting to focus heavily on only a few titles instead of giving too much information? Could another Nintendo Direct be pushed out shortly after E3?  Perhaps even the Pokemon Announcements were originally supposed to be at E3 and they moved it into its own Direct last week?

Guess we will find out what Nintendo has to show us on Tuesday morning!

More Tyranny on Tuesday
Paradox Interactive, who I am meeting with this week, teased on Twitter some artwork from Tyranny with the date 6.13.17. That just happens to be the first day of E3 and I fully expect a DLC or Expansion to Obsidian’s Tyranny. Of course, we should get to see some more details on Pillars of Eternity 2 at the show as well.

Can’t wait to report back on what I see with these titles during my time with Paradox Interactive at E3 2017.

Konami Thinking Castlevania
Konami is reported to be considering a new 2D Castlevania game for the Nintendo Switch platform. One of my favorite franchises of all time has seen its share of great 2D games on Nintendo handheld platforms. A Switch version, if done well, would be awesome even if it was a remake of older games.

Looking at the E3 lineup from Konami, I don’t expect to see anything on Castlevania at E3 unless Nintendo drops details about it in their Nintendo E3 Direct.

Microids Announces Syberia on Switch
In news I didn’t have time to cover before heading out to E3 2017, Microids has revealed that they are working to bring Syberia 1, 2, and 3, along with Flashback Remastered, Gear.Club, and Blacksad to the Nintendo Switch Platform.

For Syberia, they plan on releasing a remastered version of the original Syberia later this year—probably around the Fall timeframe. Syberia 2 would then come by the end of 2017. Finally, Syberia 3 won’t show up on the Switch until early 2018. My guess is the titles are spaced 3 months apart and will be made available exclusively on the Nintendo eShop.

Flashback Remastered will come to Nintendo Switch in Late 2017.

Gear.Club will also come to the Nintendo Switch in Late 2017

And last but certainly not least, the upcoming Blacksad, based on a graphic novel, is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms in late 2018.

Microids isn’t at E3 so I wanted to be able to share their news with you all. Also, who doesn’t want more great Switch games? My message to Developers: Give me all the games for Nintendo Switch!

Shenmue 3 Delay Confirmed
A few weeks ago I shared with you my feelings that something was up with the development of Shenmue 3. Those thoughts were confirmed as a video message to the Kickstarter Backers has revealed Shenmue 3 is being delayed to 2018. This completely makes sense as the game was skipping E3 entirely.

Hopefully, the extra time will make for a great game. This franchise deserves a great third entry after all these years. Also, maybe we will finally get that Remastered Shenmue that has been rumored.
