Console Watch 2002: Playstation 2
It’s an undeniable fact that for the time being, the PS2 is the system to own. Most PS2 owners found themselves being overwhelmed in a flood of great games over the last holiday season. Several huge titles launched near the end of the year, including Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Square’s masterpiece Final Fantasy X.
What is Square Thinking?
I think Square is making a huge mistake with Final Fantasy XI. According to my calculations, to play that game just for the first year it will cost over $200. Now I don’t know about you, but with all of my other games I pay fifty bucks just one time and I get to play the game as long as I want and as much as I want for no extra money.
Who Will be the “Console Wars” Champion?
Of the three current gaming consoles, Nintendo GameCube, Sony Playstation 2, and the Microsoft Xbox, I would say they all have an equally good chance at emerging victorious from this “console war.” Although the Xbox is the most powerful, it has the least appealing games and a high price.
Virtual Reality: A Farmer Monkey Design
My CV-Games colleague Nate Weaver got me thinking: you know, virtual reality is without a doubt the wave of the future. The Xbox possesses the most power, but it still struggles to sell in Japan, where the GameCube and PS2 already have a large market.
Console Watch 2002: Xbox
For the past year or so, Microsoft have taken a lot of heat as they have attempted to break into the home console market. But their entry, the Xbox, is nothing but a mass of pure gaming goodness. The Xbox is large, heavy, and it boasts more power than any other platform on the market.
Judge Denies First Amendment
A federal judge in St. Louis, Stephen Limbaugh, has ruled that video games are not constitutionally protected forms of speech. Before making the decision, Limbaugh said he reviewed four different video games and found “no conveyance of ideas, expression, or anything else that could possibly amount to speech.
Console Watch 2002: GameCube
As of late, it would seem that it’s become somewhat fashionable to bash Nintendo’s purple, handled console. In fact, I have done my fair share of rippin’ on the old ‘Cube, and truth be told, the system has earned those complaints.
